A recent University of Chicago study has found that Maths anxiety can cause pain in the brain. Imagine…the fear of maths can be so bad it sets off sensations of physical pain. Think about it for a moment about what our little ones go through when studying Maths.
This study led by Ian Lyons found that in individuals who experience
high levels of anxiety when facing maths tasks, the anticipation of
maths increases activity in regions of the brain associated with the
physical sensation of pain. The higher an individual’s math anxiety, the more such neural activity was increased.
